- The 2010 Big Read - D.C. invites Washington, D.C. residents to enjoy the pleasures and benefits of reading and experiencing a single book as one community. The annual event is presented by the Humanities Council of Washington, DC and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. D.C. is reading A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines during the months of April and May 2010. The Big Read D.C. is part of The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
